Robots Tag

Controls whether search engines may index a page and follow its links.

The robots meta tag (<meta name="robots" content="...">) tells search-engine crawlers like Googlebot what they may do with a page. The most important values: index/noindex (allow indexing), follow/nofollow (follow links), noarchive (no cached copy), nosnippet (no snippet in search results).

Practical use: on login screens, dashboards, internal tools, and thank-you pages, set noindex, nofollow — those have no business in Google. On public marketing pages, set index, follow (or omit the tag entirely, since index, follow is the default).

Important: the robots tag governs search engines. It does not prevent any human visitor from seeing the page. To genuinely protect a page, use a login wall or server-side authentication.
