Open Graph (OG)
Meta tags that control how a link looks when shared on social media.
Open Graph (OG) is a protocol introduced by Facebook in 2010 and now used across virtually every major platform: Facebook, LinkedIn, X, WhatsApp, Slack, Discord, Telegram, iMessage, Signal.
OG tags sit in the <head> of a page and tell platforms 'when someone shares this link, display title X, description Y, and image Z.' The most important tags: og:title, og:description, og:image, og:url.
Short-link trick: by default, platforms read OG data from the destination page, not from the short link. On promolinks.net Growth customers can override OG data per short link — the shared link displays exactly the preview you choose, independent of the destination.
